Library
The library of the Institute of Anthropology and Ethnology co-creates the Library of Collegium Historicum as the Section of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology. The specialist book collection, consisting of over 35,000 volumes of Polish and foreign publications, is one of the largest ethnological book collections in Poland.

Monday-Thursday: 9.00 a.m.-6.00 p.m. Friday: 9.30 a.m.- 2.45 p.m.
During holidays:Monday-Friday: 9. 30 a.m. to 2.45 p.m.
Access to the book collection
The book collection is available for lending on the premises and for borrowing from outside the library. The following volumes are available for lending on the premises: Open Access volumes with a red stripe on the spine, magazines, encyclopedias, dictionaries and publications from before 1945. Special loans are available on a one-day basis: Open Access volumes marked with an orange stripe on the spine. Other volumes available to be borrowed on the spot: All volumes from the Open Access and Stockroom that are not otherwise marked. Free Access: The section of the library with free access to the shelves is divided into sections, marked by colours and letters next to the local references.
The Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology section is pink and the letter E in the local reference. The other sections are Archaeology Section – blue with the letter A, History Section – yellow with the letter H, Musicology Section – green with the letter M and Eastern Studies Section – white with the letter W.
In the free access of the Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology Section there are:
- journals (arranged by titles in alphabetical order)
- books arranged in thematic sections (the exact classification is available on the Historical Faculty Library website in the “Classification – Ethnology” tab http://bwh. amu.edu.pl/?page_id=83 )
In the catalogue, free-access books are marked with a local reference number (there is no order/reserve button next to a book), which informs about the section in which a given item is located (in the free-access catalogue you search for a book by its local reference number).Warehouse Books in the warehouse need to be ordered – in the catalogue there is an order/reserve button next to a given item, which enables you to place an order. After receiving information by e-mail that the order has been completed by the library, the books should be collected from the lending library of Collegium Historicum within 6 days.
