Middle Grounds, Ambiguous Frontiers and Intercultural Spaces

ed. by Aleksander Posern-ZIeliński, Lech Mróz
Instytut im. Oskara Kolberga, Poznań 2014

The main task of that set of contributions is to draw attention to transitional phenomena to be observed mostly in cultural, ethnic and religious borderlands. The authors concentrate on a specific type of regions or territories often referred to as "middle grounds", "ambiguous frontiers" or "intercultural spaces". At the heart of each of such an area is an encounter of different cultures, interethnic contact and clash of contrastive values combining elements from distant worlds into a hybrid whole and forming on this ground ambivalent identity of the local inhabitants.
